Planning
Swope Community Builders’ efforts around comprehensive planning efforts were strengthened through a relationship with the Applied Urban Research Institute (AURI). AURI was launched in 1994 to strategically address reinvestment needs in urban core communities through collaboration. SCB’s Planning Division continues to evolve and respond to changing environments. Although initially focused on public policy issues and strategic and master planning services to Kansas City based community groups, SCB’s Planning Division has become an essential intermediary that jumpstarts community action around the country.
Swope Community Builders provides a comprehensive approach to revitalizing neighborhoods through integrating:
- urban planning
- financial assistance
- project management
We devise creative, tailored solutions that link logical opportunities with available resources for non-profit and for-profit developers, municipalities and residents.

Kansas City Engine for Economic Development (KCEED)
The Applied Urban Research Institute’s - Kansas City Engine for Economic Development (KCEED) Loan Program targets federal funds strategically to promote effective community development through a revolving loan fund. The purpose of the loan program is to provide targeted loans for development projects with potential for significant initial and secondary development impact in targeted areas of the Kansas City region. KCEED funds urban redevelopment real estate projects at the stage where obtaining conventional loans is typically most difficult – predevelopment.
As of March 2007 the $2.1 million loan pool has leveraged $38.34 million in public and private funding and will result in 234 units of housing and 71,000 square feet of institutional and commercial space.
